Shifting Manufacturer Standings

While Honda remains the largest overall motorcycle manufacturer in Vietnam with an 8.4% sales increase this year, its market share is facing pressure from electric vehicle competitors. Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast has climbed to second place in the market following a 152.1% increase in sales. Yamaha holds the third position, while electric two-wheeler maker Yadea occupies fourth place. Half of the top four market players are now electric brands experiencing rapid growth.

Regulatory Drivers and Urban Policy

The acceleration of electric two-wheeler adoption in Vietnam is supported by government initiatives aimed at reducing urban air pollution. Authorities have established plans to restrict gasoline-powered motorcycles in specific areas of Hanoi, creating a favorable regulatory environment that encourages consumers to choose electric alternatives over traditional combustion models.

Practical Takeaway

For buyers and industry observers, the market shift in Vietnam demonstrates how rapidly electric two-wheelers can capture mainstream market share when supported by municipal restrictions on gasoline vehicles and expanding local manufacturing options.
